Gary and Jim started Lambda Psychotherapy in 1988 in Santa Fe as the first openly gay psychotherapy practice in the state of New Mexico. In this time, they have worked extensively with both gay and straight adults in individuals and couples therapy, using a variety of modalities and techniques to meet the specific needs of the individual and couple.

In addition, they offer gay men’s therapy groups teaching the Principals of Initiation outlined in their book, Gay Warrior: Transforming Betrayal into Wisdom (see below). These groups are highly dynamic, safe places where gay men are encouraged, through interacting, supporting and challenging each other, to stretch beyond the familiar and find a world that includes greater intimacy, deeper connection and authenticity. Jim and Gary believe that group therapy can be a powerful agent of change, greatly enhancing the client’s journey of self-awareness.

In their practice, whether working with individuals, couples, or groups, Gary and Jim strive to create an environment of safety and trust. Such a therapeutic environment, combined with their direct and supportive styles, helps the client to experience a deep and lasting healing—of mind, body and spirit. Space is limited in groups, and clients must first work individually with one of the therapists.
